Ante and Raise Bets

Pair Plus Side Bet

Pair Plus Side Bet Has a Higher House Edge

Understand Dealer Qualification

Pair Plus is settled on your three cards alone and is entirely independent of the main game, so chasing it after a flat session only adds the steeper side-bet edge on top of normal variance. A Hand Priced in Ringgit

Take a MYR 10 ante. You look at Q-9-5, which clears the Q-6-4 threshold, so you raise MYR 20 and have MYR 30 in play. If the dealer shows J-high and fails to qualify, the ante pays 1:1 for MYR 10 and the raise comes back untouched. If the dealer qualifies with K-7-2 and you win the comparison, both bets pay and you collect MYR 30 in winnings on a MYR 30 outlay. Lose the comparison and the whole MYR 30 goes.

That structure is why the fold decision is worth so much. Below Q-6-4 you are putting a raise of twice the ante behind a hand that loses the comparison more often than it wins, and the qualification refund does not cover the difference. Folding costs you MYR 10. Raising badly puts MYR 30 at risk to save that MYR 10, which is a poor trade every time you make it.

The side bet arithmetic is starker. Pair Plus at roughly a 7 per cent edge is about three times the cost per Ringgit staked of the main game at 2 to 3 per cent. Put another way, MYR 5 on Pair Plus every hand costs roughly what MYR 15 of main-game turnover costs, while feeling like a small extra. At around 45 to 55 hands an hour on a busy live table, that MYR 5 becomes MYR 225 to MYR 275 of side bet turnover in a single sitting.

The mistake that shows up most in Teen Patti is playing the ante as though it were the whole bet.
